This hardtail kit comes with 1" and 1-1/8" tubes and was requested by customers to use for Harley Big Twin frames, but it can be used on other bikes as well. You will need to determine if this kit will work for your needs. Each tube only has one bend (as shown in the product image). Consider the size of the rear wheel/tire you'll be using as well as chain clearances. This kit does not come with instructions. Returns are allowed for 14 days from delivery and are only allowed if the kit is completely unused (and free from rust) Return shipping will be paid by the customer.
This do-it-yourself universal hardtail kit gives you more flexibility with the final look of your motorcycle compared to pre-welded hardtail sections. With this kit, you can create almost any drop and typically at least a 6" stretch (or more depending on your frame). The kit uses DOM tubing which is stronger and more uniform than ERW tubing (also 2 to 3 times as expensive). You can choose from a variety of axle plate styles and slot sizes.
We've found that people want to build their own hardtail and have the skills and a welder, but don't have a proper tubing bender. This kit takes care of that and will also save you time in finding DOM tubing and axle plates.Made from 1020 mild steel DOM tubing with a .120" wall thickness.
The hardtail kit comes with the following:
- Two pieces of bent 1-1/8" DOM Tubing (36" inches long with the bend centered at 13" from one end)
- Two pieces of bent 1" DOM Tubing (36" inches long with the bend centered at 13" from one end)
- Two 12" cross tubes (one from 1" DOM tubing and one from 1-1/8" DOM tubing)
- Four 2.5" sleeves (slugs) for butt welds (two to fit into 1" x .120" wall DOM tubing, and two to fit into 1-1/8" x .120" wall DOM tubing)
- Your choice of axle plates.
- Optional 3/16" spacer plates (more information below).The axle plates come in three styles: A, B, and C, and all are available with 17mm, 20mm, 3/4", or 1" / 25mm slots. See Axle Plates
For certain axle plate styles and slot sizes, you can add a pair of 3/16" (7ga) spacer plates to increase the axle plate width to 9/16" to allow for wider chain adjusters. They must be welded to the axle plates. Spacer plates are available for axle plate styles A and C in slot sizes 17mm, 20mm, and 3/4". They are also available for style B axle plates with 20mm slots.
Note: DOM tubing color can vary from batch to batch.
