This do-it-yourself universal hardtail kit gives you more flexibility with the final look of your motorcycle compared to pre-welded hardtail sections. With this kit, you can create almost any drop and typically at least a 6" stretch (or more depending on your frame). The kit uses DOM tubing which is stronger and more uniform than ERW tubing (also twice as expensive). You can choose from a variety of axle plate styles and slot sizes.
We've found that people want to build their own hardtail and have the skills and a welder, but don't have a proper tubing bender. This kit takes care of that and will also save you time in finding DOM tubing and axle plates.Made from 1020 mild steel DOM tubing with a .120" wall thickness.
The universal hardtail kit comes with the following:
- Four pieces of bent 1-1/8" DOM Tubing (two are 36" inches long and two are 33" long with the bend centered at 13" from one end)
- Three 12" cross tubes. Also 1-1/8" DOM.
- Two 2.5" sleeves (slugs) for butt welds.
- Your choice of axle plates.
- Optional spacer plates.
The axle plates come in three styles: A, B, and C, and all are available with 17mm, 20mm, 3/4", or 1" / 25mm slots. See Axle Plates.For 20mm (and 3/4") axle plates, you can add a pair of 3/16" (7ga) spacer plates for $10 to increase the axle plate width to 9/16" to allow for wider chain adjusters. The spacer plates only come with 20mm slots, but can be used with 3/4" axle plates as well. They must be welded to the axle plates.
Note: DOM tubing color can vary from batch to batch.
